Administrative geography as at April 2019 and April 2020 in England

In April 2020 the former county of Buckinghamshire (South East) was abolished and replaced by Buckinghamshire unitary authority (Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe districts, and Buckinghamshire county abolished).

In April 2019, new unitary authorities have been created or merged; and one county abolished in the English Channel area.

South West:

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole: Merged unitary authority
  • Dorset: New unitary authority (Dorset county abolished)
  • Somerset county: Somerset West and Taunton - New local authority district (Taunton Deane and West Somerset districts abolished)

South East:

  • Kent county: Folkestone and Hythe - Local authority district (formerly Shepway)
